Talviyö (Winter Night) Dog Sweater is a warm winter pullover featuring Northern Lights and a snowy spruce forest. It is worked top down, starting in the round from the neck. After the yoke, the work is divided into the back and front sections and then knitted flat, meaning that the stranded colorwork is also worked on the wrong side.
The colorwork uses two colors at a time. The pattern is designed for Aran-weight yarn. The sample sweaters were knitted in Ístex Léttlopi, which is warm and performs well even when wet.
The pattern includes 8 sizes, with finished chest circumferences ranging from 39–93 cm (15.5–36.5 in). Choose a size that is approximately 5–8 cm (2–3 in) larger than your dog's actual chest circumference. The finished back length ranges from 38–84 cm (15–33 in) and can easily be adjusted by adding or removing rows.
The pattern is written for circular needles, but the smallest sizes can also be worked entirely on double-pointed needles.
The sweater is designed with a comfortable amount of positive ease, making it easy to put on and allowing room for a harness underneath. The underside of the sweater is worked in ribbing, making it easier to dress. For females, the sweater can cover the entire underside, while for male dogs, the lower belly should be left uncovered. Separate instructions are provided for both. Sleeves for the front legs are worked last and may be omitted if desired.
This pattern is made in collaboration with Hanna-Mari Puuska. It can also be purchased from Ravelry: https://www.ravelry.com/designers/hanna-mari-puuska
Needles: 3.5 mm (US 4) and 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles. Two 3.5 mm (US 4) double-pointed needles for the front section. For the sleeves, you will need a set of five 3.5 mm (US 4) and 4.5 mm (US 7) double-pointed needles. Sizes 1–3 can also be worked entirely on double-pointed needles.
Yarn: Aran-weight yarn (50 g = 100 m / 109 yds), e.g. Ístex Léttlopi.

Gauge: 18 sts × 24 rnds = 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4 in). The sizes on the previous page are based on this gauge, using 3.5 mm needles for the ribbing and 4.5 mm needles for the stockinette stitch. Always check your gauge before starting, as it may vary depending on your knitting style. Please also note that the sweater may loosen slightly with wear, especially if it is frequently exposed to moisture.
